Watch the documentary here Rebuilding Paradise (Warning to all Fire Survivors – Trigger Alert). This film shows what happens to people after surviving a disaster. Ron Howard’s mother in law lived in Paradise for four years, and he had visited many times. 

We woke up that morning tired and happy to the phone ringing. Two nights prior we hosted an election results party celebrating Steve’s election to Paradise Town Council.  I went to work, Steve stayed home straigtening up. He was notified that the Camp Fire was “barrelling” towards Paradise.  He called me at work and said to close the shop and come home, we’ll throw a few things together and evacuate together. He called me right back and said, “stay put, I’m coming to get you, the fire is here.” He arrived and we evacuated together, with just the clothes on our back, like so many others. We stopped at Town Hall to see how he could help. He came back out to the car and said he was going back up the hill, where he remained until 4:30 with one other council member directing traffic at Skyway and Elliott. I spent the day in the Raley’s shopping center in Chico with my two Miniature Schnauzers, Harley and Missy. Unfortunately, our story is not unique.  This ridge continues to amaze and impress us!

We have since rebuilt our home back in Paradise, there truly is no place like home!
